I went there yesterday afternoon and had the " seafood scramble with root

hash " (seaweed in scrambled tofu, plus pan fried root vegetables), which was

very good. Also, they have various baked goods. I had a piece of

excellent strawberry bread. Yum.

The spirit of the place is very positive. The interior is starting to look

nice, and there is not yet an outdoor sign. It is on the southwest corner

of 45th Avenue and Judah St. They also have an agreement with Jim Bodhi's

Judahlicious juice bar, which is up the block on 44th and Judah. So, you

can order a juice at Feel Real Cafe, they will call in the order, and it

will be delivered down to you.

This area of the Sunset District has become a nice haven for local small

food businesses. Other Avenues, the vegetarian natural food cooperative, is

just across the street. Not long ago, the residents here signed a petition

that helped block a Starbucks from entering the space now occupied by

Judahlicious. I think the neighborhood is greatly enhanced by these locally

owned places.

Feel Real Cafe now open, Judah & 45th

The vegan cafe in the outer Sunset district of San Francisco

opened today, it's at the corner of Judah and 45th

(address 4001 Judah, phone: 415-504-REAL).

I peeked my head in the door this afternoon, they

had a drumming circle going on and were serving

food and beverages. Jun (pronounced like the month

June) and Raquel (Rachel?) told me the menu is all-vegan.

Today's recommended entree was potato soup, and they

had a couple of other entrees, plus an assortment of

sweets, teas, organic fair-trade coffees, and more.

No web site, no card yet, no published menu.

Jun says they're open every day at this point, 7am until

around 7pm. I would call ahead to make sure they're open.

Since I had already eaten, I didn't get to try any of their

food yet, but will do so.

I wanted to try them out myself today so at about 10:30 AM I called them to ask them when they open and was told they open at noon so even though I was really very hungry I waited around and then took the N Judah all the way across town. I got there at 12:15 to give them a little wiggle room as far as opening but when I walked in I was told they weren't ready to open yet and wouldn't be opening until One O'Clock! I already wasted two hours of my Sunday waiting for them and was extremely hungry at this point. Now I had to take the N Judah all the way back so I could get some food at Herbivore which is exactly what I did.

I just hope that this experience wasn't an indication of how the folks at the Feel Real Cafe plan on treating their customers in the future because if it is they won't be able to stay in business for very long. Giving your customers the wrong opening time when they call on the phone is NO way to run a business! Good luck to all who attempt to eat there.
