Guest guest
hey folks, i'm looking for ideas/references for people/vet that could take a pigeon in for evaluation/rehabilitation (prefer not to go to animal care & control). found a vet hospital in castro valley that will take the bird, but since in SF, just wondering if there is help closer at hand. responses in the next hour or two would be really timely. thanks, tammy ____ BAY AREA VEGETARIANS (BAV) is a non-profit community group for veggies to network, find support and promote veganism. Guest guest
Well, for anyone wondering what happened with the injured bird that I found while walking to work on Thursday morning: We weren't sure of the extent of the injuries, just that the little bird wasn't moving and had some bleeding... To give the little bird the best possible chance, we decided against SF's Animal Care & Control (who had offered to come and pick her up) and on Boulevard Pet Hospital in Castro Valley. Boulevard Pet Hospital offered to accept her and rehabilitate her. If she survived, they would release her; or, if she couldn't be released, they would care for her in an aviary. We called a couple of times through the day and were hopeful as she was still alive. On Friday, however, we found out the sad news that she didn't make it.... Some of the other suggestions that I received for injured wildlife are: Wild Care in Marin http://www.wildcaremarin.org/ Lindsay Wildlife Museum in Walnut Creek http://www.wildlife-museum.org/ Peninsula Humane Society/SPCA Wildlife Care Center in San Mateo http://www.peninsulahumanesociety.org/services/wild.html Ohlone Humane Society Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Newark http://www.ohlonehumanesociety.org/wildliferehab.htm If anyone knows of a website that lists all the wildlife/rehab centers for the Bay Area, please let me know (esp. if it details their policy about euthanasia). It'd be a great resource to know about and share. Tammy
