Hi guys,

I'm looking for a dinner place for my birthday party. Many of my friends are

not vegetarian, so I thought this may be a great way to introduce them to a

great vegetarian meal. Do you know of any good yet moderate price restaurant

to go?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Kansinee (and for anyone else looking for veggie restaurants)

What you might want to do (since you didn't specify where you lived or how far you want to travel) is search the Ultimate Guide to Vegetarian Living in the SF Bay Area for vegetarian restaurants and look for what interests you. It's an online database that you can search by city or region, and you can even print a guide to carry with you.

Everyone will have their favorite restaurants for different reasons. For me, it's good food, service, and price. If you're unhappy with the food or service, that can really spoil a meal. In the Ultimate Guide, we always encourage folks to post reviews (thank you to our reviewers!) and you can find out what the top rated restaurants are on the featured page.

These restaurants also won the BEST OF VEG 2004 contest

My favorite vegetarian restaurant is Shangri-La. It's Chinese food in San Francisco, in business since 1978. The food and the service is consistently good. For a group, they also have 2 large round tables in the back that can comfortably accomodate 8 people each (although if you want to be snug, you could fit up to 10). The prices are reasonable too. Typical entrees range from $5-7 and at $2.25, their soup is a good deal (try their Shanghai Style won ton soup, its one of my favorites, esp. if you like ginger). They have a lunch special for $5.40 which includes soup, rice, egg roll (which are vegan) and your choice of entree; and, I believe the lunch specials are available on the weekend too. However, for a birthday party, while they have Chinese style desserts, they don't have birthday cake.

Shangri-La (we eat here anyways, so that's why decided to host a monthly dinner for the group here)

I think its great you're celebrating your birthday at a veg restaurant and taking your non-veg friends with you!

Cheers,

Tammy
