Vegan Chocolate Cake in Berkeley

In the latest East Bay Express, there's a review of the Bake Shop

(1926 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley). At the end of the article, the author

gives a very positive review to the vegan chocolate cake:

 

" Almost as an afterthought, we bought one of the vegan

chocolate-cherry loaf cakes that wait on the counter, snugly

plastic-wrapped, for impulse shoppers who can withstand neither the

bottomless darkness of its color nor the promise of cherries. This

would prove my hands-down favorite. Silva first saw the recipe printed

in a magazine, back in Brazil; for his own version, he reduced the

amount of sugar. It's a very ordinary cake, he insists. But then, that

has been the secret of many a success. "
