Guest guest
This is the second time (Examiner) in the last week or so that I've read the 70,000 vegetarians in SF stat. I thought that sounded elevated (?), but wasn't sure. Does anyone know the actual number, or can anyone confirm that number or cite another source? Thanks, Heidi *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Heidi Swanson 101cookbooks.com *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* On Saturday, February 19, 2005, at 11:12 PM, sunny outdoors wrote: > where did they get that data? > > http://www.sfexaminer.com/articles/2005/02/11/columnists/p_j_corkery/ > 20050211_co01_pj.txt > > the article is on the bottom > > also talks about Veg News Winners > > > signature: > > The World is going down hill. Guest guest
The Vegetarian Resource Group does periodic surveys of the number of vegetarians in the US. Their 2003 survey found that 10% of the people in the Western part of the US don't eat meat. So perhaps the examiner used this figure and applied it to the city-wide population to estimate the number of vegetarians??? Just a guess. The problem with doing this is that the 10% includes those who eat fish and poultry. If you were to use the percentage in the Western part of the US who don't eat fish, meat or poultry, then the percentage is 4%. Anyway, detailed survey results can be found at the following link: http://www.vrg.org/journal/vj2003issue3/vj2003issue3poll.htm --- Heidi Swanson <heidi wrote: > This is the second time (Examiner) in the last week > or so that I've > read the 70,000 vegetarians in SF stat. > I thought that sounded elevated (?), but wasn't > sure.
