Guest guest
I just got back from an awesome monthly KFC protest in San Jose where someone brought a real rooster! Complete with a little read bow around its neck and all. I felt it made the protest 10 times more powerful to have people pointing and checking out this rooster pecking on the KFC lawn. It really inspired me and got me thinking about the possibility of organizing a group to rescue some roosters from a trash at a factory farm and try and coordinate that with possible homes for them. As many of you may know from seeing the movie " Peaceable Kingdom " ; male chickens (roosters) are discarded at birth due to their useless ness in providing eggs and lean, " un-tasty " bodies. Often they are killed by being dumped in the trash, leaving them to suffocate or die from exposure. My understanding is that often rescuing them can be a simple as going to the right trashcan and picking them out. If anyone is interested in this, or knows of other people who currently do this please contact me. I see 2-4 possible ways to help: Rooster care research (which I am getting started on) Rooster care providers (owners, guardians...what ever) Web site to coordinate info? (unless there is already one out there, which it does not look like) Donations of materials or something? I AM NOT INTERESTED IN BEING PUT INTO CONTACT WITH PEOPLE WHO BREAK LAWS. The way I see it, this project is simply claiming what some one else is throwing away anyways. I do not believe that is illegal (or else there would be a lot more imprisoned homeless people in the bay area). If you are interested please email me at: TeamChicken Thanks, east bay sean
Guest guest
Sean Are you aware that many cities, including San Jose, outlaw roosters in the city limits? Some animal sanctuaries will not accept them either because the really beat the heck out of the hens. so be careful before you start rescuing, be sure you have a place where they can stay. ]Judy On Saturday, January 8, 2005, at 04:16 PM, sobaysean wrote: > > > I just got back from an awesome monthly KFC protest in San Jose > where someone brought a real rooster!
