Boycott Fork Restaurant in San Anselmo until they Stop Serving Foie Gras Cruelty

Fork Restaurant in San Anselmo (Marin County) continues to serve Foie Gras in spite of the passing of SB1520 which will ban the cruel “delicacy” in the year 2012 and after receiving letters and literature from citizens regarding the pain and suffering of ducks and geese in the making of the pate. Please write and let Fork Restaurant know how you feel about their choice of profit over pain and that you choose to boycott the cruelty. A sample letter follows:

Thank you for taking this time to reflect on your choice to serve Foie Gras at your restaurant.

Foie Gras is produced when ducks and geese are force fed large amounts of corn and oil through a long metal pipe inserted into their throats by farmers. Excessive amounts of fat is injected straight into their gullets and causes their livers to grow 10 times their normal size. It also causes severe obesity, resulting in the birds’ inability to stand, walk, and breath correctly. Death of some birds occurs when the animals’ necks are punctured by feeding tubes or when their stomachs burst. These diseased livers are then sold as Foie Gras which is considered to be a delicacy in many French restaurants. In reality Foie Gras is a brutal form of animal cruelty and your restaurant currently supports this cruelty.

Currently the production of Foie Gras is banned in many countries such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Finland, Norway, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Luxemburg. It has been ruled that it violates these countries’ animal cruelty laws. Senate Bill 1520 bans the forced feeding of ducks and geese and the selling of forced fed Foie Gras in California beginning in the year 2012.

Until Foie Gras is taken off your menu I will not support your business and I will actively recommend that the public choose to pass on frequenting your restaurant as well.

Demonstrations in support of ending Foie Gras cruelty at your location are currently in the planning stages. We hope, however, that we will not have to follow through on these plans.

Sincerely,
