Guest guest
I had never seen Mitchell's dog's life columm before but her latest edition, " Thanks for your small-brained friends " was written in response to some person who wrote a nasty letter asking her about her column about Golden State's Greyhound adoption program: why she bothered and who cared about dogs anyway, and how about caring for humans instead? I thought her response was great and applied to the situation of being a vegan or vegetarian and wrote her. I meant to post a link to her article before. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi- bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2004/11/13/HOGLV9P7N61.DTL Here is my e-mail: Dear Ms. Mitchell, I am writing to thank you for a well-written response to that jerk who thinks animals don't matter. (Thanks for your small-brained friends.) As a vegan, I often hear that same criticism applied to my lifestyle, as if being particular about what I eat and wear has any impact on my treatment of my fellow man. In fact, in my experience, people aware of animal issues are often MORE aware of human issues than people who are not. I guess in that man's mind, we're not allowed to care about more than one issue at a time. You brought up quite a few good points and I agree with your last line. Sincerely, Emily Kearney and her response: Hi Emily, Thanks so much for writing. You are absolutely right that some people seem to think that caring about one issue prevents us from caring about other things as well. If that's how they operate, then whose the one with the small brains??? I hope you enjoy future columns and have a Happy (TofuTurky?) Thanksgiving! Cheers,
