Guest guest
Shaking the Foundations, the West Coast Conference on Progressive Lawyering, begins tomorrow at 4:00. Two events are of special interest to animal rights folks. First, the 6:30 PM screening on Friday of The Corporation, which deals in part with corporate harms to animals, was directed by Jennifer Abbott, who directed the animal rights documentary " A Cow At My Table. " (Unfortunately, due to illness, Ms. Abbott will not be speaking at the screening as originally advertised.) Second, on Saturday at 11:10 AM, our animal law panel will feature a stellar group of animal rights activists and professionals: *Joyce Tischler, executive director of the Animal Legal Defense Fund *Virginia Handley, California Coordinator for The Fund for Animals *Taimie Bryant, professor of Animal Law at UCLA Law School *Bruce Wagman, animal law practitioner, professor of Animal Law at UC Berkeley Boalt School of Law. The panel will be moderated by noted author Erik Marcus, who wrote " Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating " and " Meat Market. " (Come check out Erik on Sunday in Mountain View, too! www.bayareaveg.com/events.php?EID=521#521) The registration fee is $15, and will get you a film screening, a day of panels, and a gourmet keynote lunch (vegan option available). Though the registration fee is strongly suggested, as this is a non-profit, student-run conference, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
