Guest guest
Hi, I've been lurking around here on the list for a while and have appreciated all of the information folks share here. I have generally eaten vegetarian for quite a few years now. At times I've eaten a vegan diet. I usually eat organic, at least at home. I'm always trying to improve and do a little better. My diet and orientation toward organics derive from a 25+ year commitment to nonviolence. I strive to have most things that I purchase and bring in to my life be sustainably produced. I don't bring a lot of stuff into my life. And live what I like to think is a life guided by principles of voluntary simplicity. My problem, at least the one I'm willing to confess at the moment to y'all, is that I need to find a new bed (mattress and foundation) to sleep on. I've shopped a little, both on-line and at a couple of stores, and noticed lots decision points to consider. Many of the well made organic cotton and natural latex mattresses contain wool, usually marketed as being fire retardant and helpful in resolving issues with little critters and moisture. (There are lots of adjectives associated with the wool - merino, organic, pure grow - none of which I precisely understand nor fully fathom the implications regarding how the sheep are treated.) They also cost a lot more than I'd like to pay. I'd appreciate any feedback, suggestions and ideas people on the list may have in coming up with a new option for my poor, tired, abused back. I'd be happy to receive any feedback off list, if this is inappropriate to raise on the list. (I don't plan to eat the bed.) Thanks, Drew Berkeley -- I know you are asking today, " How long will it take? " I come to say to you this afternoon however difficult the moment, however frustrating the hour, it will not be long, because truth pressed to earth will rise again. How long? Not long, because no lie can live forever. How long? Not long, because you still reap what you sow. How long? Not long. Because the arm of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice. --- Martin Luther King, Jr. March 25, 1965, Montgomery, AL
