That's already legal in California.See the online Official Voter Information Pamphlet: http://www.voterguide.ss.ca.gov/english.pdfThe impartial Legislative Analyst's analysis of Prop 71 says:"Fiscal impact: State cost of about $6 billion over 30 years to pay off both the principal ($3 billion) and interest ($3 billion) on the bonds. State payments averaging about $200 million per year."Prop 71 is an attempt by a small group of venture capitalists and pharmaceutical company executives to have California taxpayers pay

for their research and development costs.-- Mike SageMichael Borg [corradoborg]Thursday, October 28, 2004 11:44 PMVirginia Handley; Bay Area Animal Rights Network; SF Bay Area Veg*n; Vigil for AnimalsRe: [baarn] State Proposition 71 - Likelihood of Testing on Animals...Pawpac RecommendationsCorrect me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Christopher Reeves' statement indicate that Prop 71 will be continuing on humans what was successful on animals? I agree with the scientist who posted earlier. Stem cell research on animals is, and has been, legal, and is currently being performed. There would be no need for a proposition to ask permission to do something that is already legal. Prop 71 is intended to legalize research on human stem cells, which is DEFINITELY a good thing. Not only will human research reduce (and hopefully someday eliminate) the occurance

of animal testing, but it will be MUCH more useful and applicable to real world sicknesses in humans, as well.-Mike BorgVirginia Handley <vhandley wrote:Paw PAC didn't take a position on Prop 71 because it wasn't clear if it would entail more animal research or not, but I agree with Bob that it probably will, because after we'd sent out our endorsements I saw an ad by Christopher Reeves in support of the Prop saying it had already been effective on animals. Perhaps ultimately it can replace some animals. I expect it will pass.Virginia HandleyPaw PACwww.pawpac.org ___________________'Food' for thought:Number of Jews killed in the Holocaust = ~6,000,000Number of humans in the world in 2004 = 6,372,797,742Number of chickens killed in the US in 2003 alone = 8,424,208,000How is this not genocide? For events:
