Guest guest
I've been informed of 2 dogs living in Pacifica (on the coast, south of San Francisco) who need to be picked up from what has been described as an abusive/abandonment situation. They have both been, apparently, badly neglected and one might need to be euthenized. I need some advice on how to handle this situation. This is an urgent call - I might only have a day or so to pick these dogs up. I'm 5 months pregnant - I can't go by myself to the door of this house and take 2 dogs in my small car. Plus, I don't know how the interaction is going to be with the dog " guardians " even though I will have written OK to take the dogs. I need: Someone who simply knows what they're doing in these situations A large car or van or something to drive these dogs. Advice on where to bring them (I haven't yet called any rescue centers) A strong body or two to help me Any suggestions, information, volunteering can be sent to me personally at caity or 925-229-8942 Brief-as-possible background: My friend left her 2 dogs with her ex-husband 1-1/2 years ago when she left him to run to Florida. She assumed that her ex was taking care of the dogs. She had learned that a visitor to the house was shocked by the condition of these 2 dogs. She called me to ask if I could rescue the dogs and adopt them out and/or give them veterinary care (or in the case of one of them, euthenize him). She cannot afford to fly out to handle this. Big bad on her part, but the point is that the dogs need help. Quickly!
Guest guest
Update from my end on the 2 dogs in Pacifica: I called the Penninsula Humane Society and they're going to take care of tomorrow. I'll keep in touch with them to find out the conditions of the dogs, how the guardian responded, what the dogs' options are, etc. In hindsight, the HS is an obvious resource, I should have known - but I haven't considered them a source of support for this kind of situation. So now I know - their Humane Officer guy was *very* helpful and supportive. Thanks for all your emails! ~Caity
