Guest guest
Does anyone know if anyone from the AR movement is involved with this event or if any of the speakers listed below are AR conscious and likely to break the species barrier during discussion? Thanks, Kate ------ Forwarded Message UCS Scientific Integrity Campaign <action Thu, 30 Sep 2004 16:37:26 -0400 (EDT) Scientific Integrity Roundtable at Berkeley 10/12 Scientific Integrity Roundtable to be Held at UC Berkeley October 12 Dear Kate, We thought you, as a UCS activist, might be interested in attending a special roundtable discussion on scientific integrity at the Wheeler Auditorium on the UC Berkeley campus on Tuesday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m. The event will also be broadcast live on the Internet <http://www.ucsaction.org/ctt.asp?u=451273 & l=59646> . The scientific community is uniting around a growing concern that the Bush administration has suppressed, distorted, and manipulated scientific evidence and advice across a broad range of issues-from climate change to reproductive health to childhood lead poisoning. It has become clear that significant reforms are needed to protect science from abuse and to ensure that policy decisions are made with access to the best available science. This fall, in partnership with professors, students, non-profit organizations, and scientific societies, UCS is supporting the organizing of scientific integrity roundtables on university campuses from coast to coast. The events will feature local and nationally-known scientists discussing the current problem, its impacts, and reforms that can prevent the abuse of science by the current and future administrations. Speakers at the Berkeley roundtable include David Baltimore <http://www.ucsaction.org/ctt.asp?u=451273 & l=59648> , president of CalTech; Bruce Buckheit <http://www.ucsaction.org/ctt.asp?u=451273 & l=59649> , former director, EPA Air Enforcement Division; Andrew Eller, <http://www.ucsaction.org/ctt.asp?u=451273 & l=59650> U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist; Kurt Gottfried <http://www.ucsaction.org/ctt.asp?u=451273 & l=59651> , Professor of Physics Emeritus at Cornell University; and Henry Miller <http://www.ucsaction.org/ctt.asp?u=451273 & l=59652> , former director, FDA Biotechnology office. The event will be moderated by Michael Pollen <http://www.ucsaction.org/ctt.asp?u=451273 & l=59653> of Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism. We hope you can make it. Tickets are $10; students enter free but must reserve seats. Click here <http://www.ucsaction.org/ctt.asp?u=451273 & l=59646> for information about ticket reservation and purchase. This event is part of the UCS Restoring Scientific Integrity campaign <http://www.ucsaction.org/ctt.asp?u=451273 & l=59694> .
