Guest guest
I posted something similar to this last year but some recent experiences compelled me to again bring this up - especially for vegetarians unaware. Too many unsuspecting vegetarians are eating fish sauces on a regular basis and have no idea. Most Thai (Vietnamese and Chinese) restaurants have either " vegetarian " or " vegetables " sections on their menus. It is the very rare restaurant that does not use fish sauce prepared in their " vegetarian " and " vegetable " dishes. I learned many years ago to always make a specific request that my meals are prepared without fish (or oyster) sauce. Some restaurants will accommodate. Some won't. Others say they will and might, or might not. Others will tell you that it doesn't taste good without the fish sauce. Others will tell you that some " vegetarians " eat fish so they don't see a contradiction in putting fish/oyster sauces in their " vegetarian " dishes. I for one am really tired of this situation. I would like to ask you all to always check with the restuarants you eat at and please inform them that by definition " vegetarians " do not eat fish or poultry. Just becuase ill informed people appropriate the term " vegetarian " should not allow that definiton to become commonly accepted. It's a disservice to all vegetarians. The restaurants need to understand this. Many thanks, Steven
