He said he loves animals and his daughter was of particular influence in recognizing the situation this repeal suggestion created. We are so glad the animals have the Governor on their side. PLEASE THANK Governor Schwarzenegger for recognizing the value of the Hayden legislation and tell him we look forward to working with him on legislation to protect animals in the future. You can contact the Governor here http://www.govmail.ca.gov/. While we are thrilled that the Governor has announced his intent to reverse the Hayden repeal effort, the Department of Finance must correct the language and the Conference Committee still has to meet to adopt the corrections. So, while you're thanking the legislators, please encourage them to meet this weekend to do what it needs to do to get this out of the budget. ONLY THEN,can we all relax.Special thanks to Assemblymembers Koretz, Levine and Leno for showing their leadership on this issue as well. The concerns of the animals were heard loud and clear. Please be sure your thanks are just as loud.Thank you for all your efforts,JenniferJennifer FearingAdvocacy & Communications DirectorUnited Animal NationsPO Box 188890Sacramento, CA 95818916.429.2457 tel916.429.2456 faxjfearing emailwww.uan.org web----------------------from the Governor's web site Governor Preserves Six-Day Euthanasia Waiting Period in Animal SheltersJune 25, 2004Governor Schwarzenegger guaranteed today that the six-day euthanasia waiting period in California shelters will remain intact. On his way to a meeting on California¹s overdue budget, the Governor assured members of the press that nothing would be changed regarding the waiting period for shelter animals. ³I just wanted to tell you that I reinstated the six day waiting period for the lost animals,² the Governor said. ³Animals will be kept in the shelters for six days and so everything will stay exactly the same. We are not going to take anything away from the shelters.²
