Guest guest
Dear Friends of rabbits: I am sad to post bad news about another neglect case so soon after the Hayward rescue. IMMEDIATE help is needed on behalf of a very large rescue of rabbits at the Watsonville shelter Yesterday, the shelter confiscated 53 rabbits from disgusting conditions at a "hobby breeder." Only 8 are adults. 4 are moms and 4 are pregnant to be spayed ASAP. 45 are babies between 2 days and 7 weeks old At least 20 of the youngest babies will likely be euthanized on Sunday unless the shelter can get rescue commitments from rescue groups. The problem is not while the babies are newborns, but in a few months when they need to be separated and then adopted out. There simply isn't room for all of them. It is considered more humane to euthanize the babies before their eyes open and they start to interact more with their surroundings. This is truly a heartbreaking choice for all involved. This means that rescue groups, like our Chapter , Rabbit Haven in Santa Cruz and RabbitsNmore in Monterey, need help in fostering and adopting out preexisting rabbits to make room if we are to help the new babies. We are already overcrowded and may not be able to take any new rabbits in. The Watsonville shelter will pay for ALL spays and neuters when the babies are old enough, However, they cannot take the babies back into the shelter system when they are old enough to be adopted, They must be adopted out by rescue. Please note: the shelter is working very closely with rescue. NO ONE wants to euthanize these rabbits. There just isn't enough space at the shelter or at rescue groups for these babies to grow up. Also, needed is TLC rabbit volunteers, fresh produce, hay, toys, litterboxes, bowls, litter, etc. If you can help, please contact me or Lara Walker at Watsonville Animal Shelter 580 Airport Blvd Watsonville, CA 95076 shelter 831-763-4177 laraadam Lara's cell phone # 831-818-5814 Work email lara.walker Thank you in advance for any and all help Marcy SchaafSan Francisco/ Marin County House Rabbit Society Chapter Managerhttp://www.SaveABunny.com
