Greetings,

Please join us this Saturday for In Defense of Animals' wildlife

protection project!

The first Saturday of every month, IDA coordinates volunteers to help

gophers by planting native plants and landscaping the area around The

Great Highway. The San Francisco Wildlife Protection Project is a joint

effort by In Defense of Animals and the San Francisco Recreation &

Parks Department to create a wildlife " sanctuary " along the Great

Highway. By landscaping the area according to the Parks Department's

specifications, volunteers create a habitat for native gophers and

prevent them from being trapped and killed.

As we have shared with you before, this vitally important project is in

jeopardy of being cancelled. The SF Rec & Parks Department allocates a

staffperson and supplies, and if we cannot increase the number of

volunteers to at least 10 people each month, they will not continue

this life-saving project. We are pleased to have had some great new

folks join us over the past few months, and we're hoping for an even

better turnout this month to keep the Project's momentum going.

We urge your to join us (and bring a friend or two) for this fun and

unique opportunity to save the lives of gophers, beautify the area,

learn about native plants and wildlife, and make new friends. We hope

to see you there!
