Bay Area Coalition for Veggie School Lunches Now Being Formed!

If you are a parent, student, educator, food service worker, manufacturer,

medical professional or community leader interested to see healthy

vegetarian meals introduced and served in your neighborhood school

cafeteria, now is the time to make your voice heard. We are forming a Bay

Area Coalition for Healthy School Lunches that will launch an exciting

public awareness campaign and work within schools for change. Initial

meetings will be held by conference call.

Live in another county or area of California?

Food Service from San Diego, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Santa Clarita Valley

and several more school districts have asked for more information about

introducing veggie options on their lunch lines. More than 50 PTA's have

expressed similar interest. If you would be interested to help form a local

coalition to galvanize interest, we would like to speak with you.

These coalitions are being formed as a follow-up effort to the passage of the Healthy School Lunch Resolution in California, which asks all California schools to offer a vegetarian lunch option on the daily menu. You can read more about the resolution, including the list of endorsers, at http://www.soyhappy.org/schoolrez.htm

The follow up effort for veggie lunches in schools is being led by the national organization called CHOICE, Consumers for Healthy Options in Childrens' Education. http://choiceusa.net

For more information and meeting times for the Bay Area Coalition, or to become involved in your own county, please contact CHOICE Director, Susan Wieland at info or 1-877-6CHOICE or Soy Happy Director Johanna McCloy at johanna. (Please note that Johanna will be out of the office and will not check messages until she returns on June 8th).
