Hi Folks,

Well, we definitely increased the veg population of Guerneville on Saturday! Twenty-nine of us enjoyed a wonderful brunch at Sparks Restaurant, an all organic and vegan establishment. By far, the 'brunch sampler' was the most popular item, with most folks ordering that. (I was one of the few exceptions -- of course I ordered the "Sparks Benedict"... Although, after seeing the fullness of sampler plate, I almost had some regrets...) The brunch sampler was so popular that Alex (co-owner & chef) is thinking of adding it to the regular menu.

For those of you who've been to Sparks before, it's not a large restaurant. There was only one party of two people that I didn't recognize as part of our group. It turns out that they are Sparks regulars, and (coincidentally) one of them is a member of our group already! So, except for a few tables for two, BAV filled the entire restaurant. (And it's probably a good thing that everyone was part of our group, because we were a boisterous crowd!)

After brunch, some of us went for a hike in nearby Armstrong Redwoods while others pursued kayaking or exploring charming downtown Guerneville. For the hikers, the majority did a moderate 2.5 mile, 500' elevation gain hike, while a few others continued for a more strenuous 5 mile hike with excellent views (translation: more uphill).

And, almost as if it were a planned rendezvous, a BAV dozen found ourselves back at Sparks before they closed at 3 p.m. for round two: desserts. The warm and fruity flavors of Strawberry Apricot crumble with vanilla soy ice cream certainly hit the spot for me. (Did anyone return for dinner at 6 pm?)

Funny enough, during the hike, we came across a group picnicking adjacent to their special interest -- old cars. While our special interest was not so evident, it is just as tangible.

We would encourage everyone to add their review of Sparks to the Ultimate Guide.

It seemed like most of the folks were new to Sparks, so I'm glad y'all were able to join us.

It was a beautiful day trip with excellent food, the company even better, and Armstrong Redwoods was awesome! We enjoyed it very much, and received the same feedback from others. I'd like to thank everyone who joined us and made this trip to special -- maybe we should make this an annual trip??
