Guest guest
If you haven't yet called your state senator to ask him or her to support SB1520, the bill that would outlaw foie gras in California, please do. You can find your legislators' contact information at: www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html . Foie gras is made by forcing ducks to consume massive amounts of grain, causing the livers to expand to up to 10 times their normal size. In fact, foie gras is so cruel that it has already been banned in over a dozen countries. To learn more, visit IDA's foie gras website at www.banfoiegras.com . Once you've called your legislators, please take a moment to make a few more quick phone calls: Flemings Prime SteakHouse & Wine Bar, in collaboration with Golf Magazine, is holding a " Golfers & Vintners Wine Dinner " which is slated to include foie gras with their main entree. The events will take place on Wednesday May 19 at 23 locations across the country. Farm Sanctuary has contacted the corporate office of Fleming's asking them to remove foie gras from the menu and was told that they had decided to do so. However, since then, other individuals involved in the event have said that the decision has not been finalized and local restaurant managers have not been told not to serve foie gras. Please contact the corporate office and these California establishments to politely urge them to follow their lead by not serving foie gras. Contact: Bill Allen (Fleming's CEO): 949-222-2223 ext 201 California Restaurants: El Segundo, John Bulla: 310-643-6911 Newport Beach, Kenyon Paar: 949-307-1693 Rancho Mirage, Wayne Hanseth or Lee Drapp: 760-776-6685 San Diego, Bobby Andrews: 619-237-1155 San Diego, Cameron Rumsde: 858-535-0078 Please be polite! You may want to let these folks know that over a dozen countries have already banned foie gras because of its inherent cruelty, and that a bill is under consideration to do the same in California. You may also want to mention that The Smithsonian Institute, the San Francisco Hilton, the Tanglewood Wine and Food Classic, Delta and United Airlines, and even California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger have removed foie gras from their menus because of the outcry over the cruelty of foie gras production.
