Guest guest
This movie is completely awesome, http://www.supersizeme.com I'm sure most of you know the plot - guy eats 3 meals a day at McDonald's and gets a tad sick ;-( What I liked about this movie was that while it pointed out the hazards of eating fast food, it did so it a fun/humorous way. This distinguished the film maker, IMHO, from Michael Moore who takes himself very seriously and in doing so - very few people end up watching his movie. Don't get me wrong - I love Michael Moore's message - but he needs to lighten up a bit to get his message across. The movie made fun of the main character's vegan chef girlfriend and veganism in general - which was a bit of a turn off. The main message was clear - eat " fast food " - beef - and you'll get sick. Eat more vegetables and exercise - stay healthy. I didn't feel the movie was a " cure all " for societies's ills, but it was a great start - considering the Embarcadero theatre was " sold out " on a Saturday night - something rare for an activist type of movie. Would love to hear other's thoughts on the movie! Ciao, Clyde
Guest guest
Supersize Me was amazing, but unfortunately it is not playing in many locations of the country--especially those in which people need to see it the most. I appreciated the humor! It should have touched more on USDA subsidies to unhealthy foods like meat, dairy, and corn (for corn syrup) and explained how subsidies relate to the economic incentives to buy unhealthy food and the poor quality of food in the national school lunch program. Greater emphasis should have been put on the government's need to change USDA policies. Marion Nestle, who was interviewed in the movie, wrote an enlightening book called Food Politics which elaborates more on this and other related issues. You all should read it if you haven't already. And bring friends and family to see Supersize me!!
