Guest guest
May 11, 2004 If you are a local Bay Area customer of Working Assets or are thinking of becoming one you might be interested to read this update on Working Assets’ policy which prejudices Animal Groups from receiving equal funding from the master customer base. On May 8 I sent out an email asking everyone to nominate their favorite local animal rights groups with a national or international scope to receive funding from Working Assets. Since then I have learned that Working Assets has an Animal Fund with ten wonderful groups in it. However, Working Assets has separated the animal group from the main set of groups and is in effect “hiding” the Animal Fund from the main customer base. A customer has to “sign up” to donate money to the Animal Fund but Working Assets does not share with customers that the Animal Fund exists and one can not select an animal group through the web site nomination process. Please urge Working Assets to continue its commitment to Animal Rights, thank them for doing what they have done to date but to demand that they fold the Animal Fund into the main groups and divide donations equally and fairly. Currently 10 Animal Groups receive an average of $2K per year. However, all the other “main” groups receive $50-140K per year. This discrepancy is undemocratic. Main Group Page: http://www.workingassets.com/recipients.cfm Animal Fund Page: http://www.workingassets.com/longdistance.cfm?formid=IR-166-ANW-1 Let’s help build on the momentum that has been so far achieved with Working Assets and see to it that the Animal Fund is desegregated and becomes a part of Working Assets’ main donor groups. Let them know that they should be proud – not ashamed - to let their customers know they are helping to end animal cruelty. If you are a Working Assets Member: Speak with a Customer Service Representative 800.548.2567 Have them immediately designate your donations go to the Animal Fund (if this is your preference of course) Lodge an official complaint; request that this policy be changed immediately; ask that someone call you back to discuss If you are not a Working Assets Member please write or call: Lucy Radcliff and she will forward emails to the President LRadcliff 415.369.2000 Michael Kiechnick, President Working Assets 101 Market Street, Suite 700 San Francisco, CA 94105 Thank you!
