Thanks, Erin Job Title: Animal Care Assistant Principal Duties: * To handle all rabbits under the direction of the Shelter Director humanely, properly and with compassion at all times, regardless of situation or circumstances. * To clean cages and habitats for all rabbits under the direction of the Shelter Director in accordance with instructions, and to record daily information regarding cleaning, feeding, and other information that may be required. * To provide food and water to all rabbits under the direction of the Shelter Director in accordance with instructions. * To answer phones and speak to the public, handling merchandise sales, facility tours, boarding appointments, preliminary adoptions, and other tasks as required. * To assist the Health Director and Shelter Director with minor health procedures. * To maintain healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant and clean facilities for the rabbits under the supervision of the Health Director and Shelter at all times. * To rapidly identify problems that need to be brought to the attention of the immediate supervisor the Health Director and Shelter Director. * To observe and report on the physical and emotional well-being of individual rabbits at the Shelter. * To shuttle rabbits, pick up supplies, and run other errands as needed. * To take appropriate measures at all times to control and prevent the spread of disease. * To verify that necessary paperwork and computer updating is completed at the time an animal is moved and to ensure that all paperwork accompanies rabbits when transferred, again, under the direction of the Shelter Director. * To work cooperatively with and assist the Shelter Director and other staff and volunteers. * To always treat people and rabbits with respect; to contribute to effective teamwork; and to foster public relations beneficial to House Rabbit Society. * To supervise and direct volunteers in animal care tasks. * To perform other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: * Ability to lift and comfortably move objects weighing up to 50 pounds and to humanely restrain an animal when necessary. Ability to perform intensive cleaning duties, including bending, lifting litterboxes, sweeping, vacuuming, etc. * Allergic conditions, which would be aggravated when handling or working with animals, may be a disqualification. Experience, Abilities And Qualities Required: * Dedication to rabbits, concern for their welfare, and a willingness to accommodate rabbits in the work place. * Experience in caring for and handling rabbits in a safe, effective and humane manner, especially aggressive and possibly untrained animals. * Knowledge concerning humane treatment of animals. Rabbit behavior and care experience would be considered a plus. * Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with a diverse staff, volunteers and public in a professional, pleasant, respectful, courteous and tactful manner at all times. Patience when dealing with potentially difficult people * Ability to drive own car on errands. * Reliability and willingness to work hard are very critical. Immediate Supervisor: Shelter Director Hours: NON-EXEMPT POSITION: 4 hours per day, 16 hours per week, including at least one weekend day per week.
