Guest guest
Hi folks, If you're planning to attend BAV's road trip event, please do three things: 1) email me with a headcount of how many attending (so I can let the restaurant know). if your attendance is contingent upon a carpool, please let me know that as well (and see #2) 2) if you can carpool (need or offer a ride), please post to the forum and give details http://www.bayareaveg.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=36 3) invite a friend to join us! I will be emailing people who have already confirmed, so if you don't get an email from me, please write again. Looking forward to seeing many of you there! Full details on the trip are available below. Cheers, Tammy Bay Area Vegetarians Bay Area Veg Events [events]Saturday, April 17, 2004 1:00 PMBAV mail list; BAV events list5/15 Road trip for Vegan Food, Redwoods, River What: Road Trip for Redwoods, Russian River, and Really Great Vegan Food! When: Sat 5/15Where: GuernevilleRSVP: Tammy, Bay Area Vegetarians [events]Sparks, a small restaurant in Guerneville, is a haven for people who enjoy vegetarian food. It is one of the best restaurants that I have ever eaten at. Not only is the food incredibly delicious and affordably priced, the restaurant is very charming, the folks there are friendly, and their support for the environment and animals is self-evident.The food at Sparks is all-vegan, using organic ingredients (even the beer and wine is vegan and organic). Their delicious brunch menu includesFrench Toast, Pancakes, Tofu Scramble, Biscuits & Gravy, and a signature dish, the "Sparks Benedict". Also included on their brunch menu is a soup of the day, Mixed Green Salad, Reuben, Sparks Burger, and a Mediterranean Plate.I've only been there twice, both times for brunch, but I am infatuated with their Sparks Benedict. Their Biscuits & Gravy is also very good.I'm told the French Toast and Scramble are also good. So what's not good at Sparks? The fact that it's about 1.5 hours north of SF! So, to make it to Sparks again, this calls for a Road Trip! I've talked with Alex Bury, head chef and co-owner of Sparks, and made arrangementsfor a SPECIAL brunch for Bay Area Vegetarians and their friends! For brunch on Saturday, 5/15, Bay Area Vegetarians and their guests will receive a 10% discount at Sparks *and* we will have two special brunch items. One is a special brunch item and the second is my request... something I have always wanted at brunch -- a SAMPLER PLATE! Yumm!! (I will have more details on the sampler and specials later, but from talking with Alex today, there may be 3 specials, a Mexican dish as well as a roasted mushroom/vegetable dish plus the sampler ... In any event, the specials will most likely be $10 or less.) Additionally, Alex will be there that day and she will hopefully have time to chat with us. So if you've always wanted to open a vegan eatery and want the inside scoop, this is your chance! So here's the idea for the day: We'll organize carpools from the Bay Area, rendezvous at Sparks for a delicious brunch at 10 a.m., and then off to enjoy the great outdoors by noon (Redwoods, Russian River, etc) and/or charm of Guerneville. And, depending on the interests of the group, we can all do the same day activity (like walking in the Redwoods) or break into smaller activity groups (walking, hiking, river, antique shopping, etc). For hiking enthusiasts, Rob (aka soyboy) has volunteered to lead a longer hike. FYI, there is a local natural foods store (Food for Humans) available plus Sparks will re-open for dinner at 6 pm. 1) Restaurant & Hiking Links : http://www.sparksrestaurant.com/main.htmhttp://www.vegdining.com/GetRest.cfm?rk=US-CA-GUER-SPARK Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve / Austin Creek State Recreation Area http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=4502) Carpools / Activity Planning : Yes, please carpool!! If you need help organizing a carpool, an easy way to do it is to invite your friends on this trip with us OR use our forum and post whether you can offer a ride (your location, # of seats) or whether you need a ride (your location).... I've also set the forum up in case folks want to plan activities (although you do have the option to spontaneously decide after brunch) http://www.bayareaveg.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=36New forum user? (see below)3) RSVPs required so I can give a headcount to Alex. You are very welcome to invite your family & friends, veg or not!, to join us. Please email me with your name and # in your group to events The restaurant can hold up to 30 people, so I anticipate we'll have room for anyone who wants to join us. BUT, as I hope to have a large group, I will need to make reservations. RSVP deadline will be Sat 5/8. Depending on number of folks who RSVP, we may have one table or two or more.
