But this year is a little different. I've got a baby on the way, and evidently, fetuses and raw fish don't mix.So my friends take me out to Cha-Ya in Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto, where they've been serving vegan sushi for the past three years. What on earth is vegan sushi, you ask? Owner Atsushi Katsumata says it's " future food. " When mad cows and sick chickens get you down, you can count on a pickled burdock roll to keep you safe and sated. And fish, while certainly delicious, is full of chemicals that Katsumata and my unborn child prefer to live without.
