Guest guest
Hi everyone, On the advice of some postings, I went to the Berkeley Farmer's Market today and sampled two vegan treats. 1. Flaco's vegan mexican food - We got there at about 12:30, and they were just making more rice, so we didn't get to taste that. We did, howover, get the enchiladas, beans, and hot chocolate. Everything was very good. The only problem is that I wished the enchiladas were a bit hotter temperature-wise. This was to be expected since they don't have a portable oven - just a sort of cooler that keeps things hot. The rest of the food was on a stove, so it was quite hot and that salsa and enchilada sauce was very tasty. I assume that had we not been such bums and gotten there a bit earlier, we would have gotten both hot enchiladas and rice. (and for those of you who have various dietary restrictions besides being veggie - the enchiladas had potatoes and not tofu or fake meat. They have some soy cheese sprinkled on top when you order them that you can decline. The enchiladas are in corn tortillas and the hot chocolate is with soy milk. Everything is organic.) 2. Phoenix Pacificioso - they had fresh pasta and baked goods. My husband and I shared a vegan chocolate cupcake with fresh raspberries on top. I thought the icing was a little dry but he liked it and we both liked the cupcake. I felt that they really found a good balance of moist without the oiliness so often found in vegan baking. Thanks to both of these companies for a fine luncheon! I will definitely go back for more. Emily
