Panda Express is not veg-friendly

Hi!

My husband and I occasionally visit the Panda Express in Lafayette (he is an

omnivore), and I order rice, steamed vegetables, and the tofu eggplant in garlic

sauce... harmless, right?

I wrote to Panda Express to find out exactly what I was consuming, and got this

reply (below). Shame on them for adding animal juice to perfectly good

vegetables! I encourage anyone else who is interested to drop a line to Mr.

Hernandez so we can let them know that vegetarians like quick Chinese food too!

And while I'm on the subject of unnecessary food additives, does anyone know

what the deal is with certain frozen items at Trader Joe's containing chicken

broth and chicken base? I was so mad when I read the ingredients in their

" vegetable " pad thai and roasted " vegetable " enchiladas. I'm in the mood to

change the world right now, so I think I'll write them a letter too. :)

Cheers,

Jill Reyman

Dear Ms. Reyman:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding Panda Express.

In reference to your question, Panda Express does not offer vegetarian entrees

due to our cooking process. Some of our entrees contain a chicken base that is

used as a flavor enhancer. We have reported your request for vegetarian entrees

to our Operations and Marketing Departments. We appreciate your taking the time

to contact us. With input from valuable guests like yourself, we are able to

address situations that might otherwise go unnoticed. Again, we wish to

acknowledge how much we appreciate your feedback.

Sincerely,

Robert Hernandez
