I could not disagree more strongly with the opinions of Jack Norris, and

while I realize that he is as deeply entrenched in his viewpoint as I am in

mine, thus making further discussion pointless, I would urge him at the

very least to refrain from sweeping statements about what " most of us in the

animal rights movement " dream about. McDonald's very definitely does not

feature anywhere in my dreams of a better world for animals.

Re: McDonald's versus KFC

McDonalds is a dream come true for most of us in the animal rights

movement -- it is what we've always wanted and needed.

I think what Jack meant was just that we all want vegetarianism to be mainstream enough that you can get a veggie burger anywhere--even at McDonald's--which I hope is something all of us can agree on. Vegetarianism has made a lot of progress in this regard, which is great. The reality is that millions of people eat fast food everyday, and I think everyone would agree that it's great that those people have a vegetarian option. Ideally, it would be best if they all went vegan and ate locally grown, organic food bought from their neighborhood vegan restaurant, but even ordering a veggie burger at McDonald's is a good step in the right direction for those people--and for the animals.

What people on this list are arguing over is not whether we want there to be veggie burgers at McDonald's but the ethics of vegans and AR people supporting it--whether it does more harm than good for us to buy veggie burgers there, supporting the product even though we're also supporting a company as evil as McD or BK, especially if our $ could instead go to a neighborhood veg establishment. I think there are good cases on both sides. Obviously this debate can go on and on....
