Guest guest
Hi all, Just wanted to offer a warning about the restaurant Yan Can. There is one in Pleasant Hill, but I believe there are other bay area locations as well. I tried to get dinner there with friends a few nights ago and was reminded of the importance of asking about ingredients. Yan Can has a " vegetables and tofu " section of the menu, but NONE of the items are vegetarian, much less vegan. All dishes have chicken stock and/or oyster sauce in them. I found this out by asking if anything on the menu was appropriate for vegans, and he said no, but that there were vegetarian dishes. Since it's not too common to find dairy in Chinese food (occasionally egg), I asked what the dishes had in them & was told about the stock. I then kindly explained that those dishes could not be considered vegetarian and he argued with me--he was quite adamant that chicken stock is vegetarian! So, I wanted to offer a warning that Yan Can is not veg friendly and to email or write the company asking them to create veg options and to mark their menu appropriately. Their email is info, and their address is Yan Can Cook Inc., P.O. Box 4755, Foster City, CA 94404. Thanks!
