Senator Burton's foie gras legislation

The principal sponsors of Burton's bill to ban the sale and production

of foie gras are: VIVA, FARM SANCTUARY and AVAR (Association of

Veterinarians for Animal Rights). With all due respect to the sponsors,

this legislation probably would not have happened but for The Fund for

Animals' Virginia Handley, who broached the subject with Senator Burton

on several recent occasions. (They have a long political history.) For

my money, Virginia continues to be the most committed, knowledgeable and

effective voice for animals West of the Rockies, and anybody working in

the legislative arena would be wise to seek her input.
