Guest guest
Does anybody know what is happening with this place ??? Two weeks ago, on the scheduled opening date, I went by there. The " Manzanita " restaurant was not open for business, but they served some free food, and told me that they would really open in two weeks, which is today. They promised that lunches would continue much as before, with Tenzin cooking from Monday to Friday. The dinner menu was going to be different, more like a regular restaurant, with different organic vegan selections. They had removed the oven from the kitchen, so baked goods were not going to be offered. This decision seemed odd to me, as ovens are pretty useful in restaurants. This morning, I looked in the window and saw an empty room, no tables or chairs inside. The website address is not active, and nobody answers the telephone. If any of you know somebody on the inside, would you please post news to this forum? Guest guest
To Jon Spear and others who may want to know when the new MANZANITA restaurant will open jdspear9 wrote: Does anybody know what is happening with this place ??? Two weeks ago, on the scheduled opening date, I went by there. The "Manzanita" restaurant was not open for business, but they served some free food, and told me that they would really open in two weeks, which is today. Well, we didn't make it by today: Complications with satisfying Building-Department-demanded Seismic Strengthening, as well as rigorous Health Department requirements for new restaurants, have been simply overwhelming --- and have most regrettably forced us to once again put off the Manzanita’s opening date. Our determination to develop and grow independently of the former Organic Cafe (which was at this location for 20 years) has doubtless cost us dearly. But we have been intent on doing things right and in conformance with all applicable laws and regulations -- as a result, our resources have been badly strained. BUT OPEN WE WILL! It's just going to take us longer: While at the moment we can not pinpoint a new opening date, we estimate it will be about 4 to 5 weeks from now. For precise information, please watch our website at www.manzanitarestaurant.com OR check for specific information per VoiceMail recordings on our new telephone (510-985-8386). We will also publish opening announcements in the East Bay Express as well as in the San Francsico Bay Guardian. And of course we'll also put an announcement here in the forum. They promised that lunches would continue much as before, with Tenzin cooking from Monday to Friday. That is true - we will indeed have the Tibetan crew: they are dearly loved by all of us! The dinner menu was going to be different, more like a regular restaurant, with different organic vegan selections. And probably even a menu. We'll try for more variety than the "Organic Cafe" ever had. They had removed the oven from the kitchen, ... Only so that we could pour a "Santa Fe Red" concrete topping so as to create an evener and more attractive restaurant & kitchen floor (the old floor of the "Organic Cafe" was wretched). By the way, there are now THREE ovens in our kitchen (two new ones). so baked goods were not going to be offered. That's a wrong conclusion: they will indeed be offered, but not just yet, not just yet . . . This morning, I looked in the window and saw an empty room, no tables or chairs inside. The tables and chairs are against the east wall so that we could rework, reseal the floor. The website address is not active, and nobody answers the telephone. You're right, and we apologize. We were trying so furiously to indeed open by Jan. 21 that we quite failed to take care of these essentials. Thanks therefore for properly stirring us to action: we're now taking steps to get both the website and telephone functioning. ---George F.
