Hi everyone,

I am thrilled to announce the birth of a new email list. " What do we need a

new email list for? " you ask? " I'm on too many email lists already, " you

say? Well, this one is different!

Several Bay Area animal activists have recognized a need for an email list

specifically for posting and discussing Bay Area animal rights issues. As it

stands now, there is the fantastic SFBAveg list, which we can still post

veg-related events and thoughts to, but since SFBAveg includes information

that may not be relevant or of interest to many activists--and includes many

people on the list who may not be interested in activism--we feel there is a

need for a new forum. There are several small email lists in the Bay Area as

well, such as In Defense of Animals', Freedom for Animals', East Bay Animal

Advocates', and several others--most segmented a bit by location or topic

within animal rights--but by having several small lists, we lose much

continuity and communication.

Therefore, I am thrilled to announce the birth of BAARN--the Bay Area Animal

Rights Network! BAARN is a network of individuals and organizations within

the San Francisco Bay Area working on behalf of animals and animal rights.

It is not our intent to create a new organization, but to create a network

for existing activists and organizations to communicate and support each

other, share resources, alert the activist community about

activities/situations which need support, as well as share successful

strategies.

You can join BAARN by emailing baarn- , and once you

you can post to the group by emailing baarn .

I really believe this is an excellent chance to make the Bay Area animal

activist community stronger, more organized, and better connected. I hope

you share my enthusiasm!

Email lists are only as good as the quantity and quality of the people who

are on them, so please if you would like to be better connected to

animal activists in the Bay Area!

By the way, sorry if you're getting this email more than once (or

twice)--I'm posting to a few lists and BCCing a hundred of my closest

friends to make sure you get this, so take it as a compliment! Please

forward on!

Thanks,

Nora

Hi folks! We agree wholeheartedly with everything Nora said in her inaugural post about BAARN, and thank her for her kind words about SFBAVEG. In regards to SFBAVEG, we want to clarify that we welcome animal rights activists and other organizations to post about local AR events and to discuss AR topics on SFBAVEG. We see SFBAVEG as a resource for the vegetarian *and* animal rights community. So, we would just add the 3 words (in brackets) to Nora's statement."As it stands now, there is the fantastic SFBAveg list, which we can still post veg [and animal rights] related events and thoughts to, but since SFBAveg includes information that may not be relevant or of interest to many activists--and includes many people on the list who may not be interested in activism--we feel there is a need for a new forum."

We are really excited to join with other activists across the Bay Area to combine all of our ideas, enthusiasm and energy. We would like to add our voices to Nora's in encouraging all activists and potential activists to join this new network specifically for animal rights. To , send an email to: baarn- or visit

Cheers,Tammy & Chris
