Guest guest
Citizens of California have the opportunity to stop some of the most atrocious and inhumane conditions endured by animals used in agriculture AB 732 seeks to outlaw veal crates and gestation crates, two foot-wide enclosures where calves and pigs are confined so tightly that they cannot walk, turn around, or even lie down comfortably. These cruel devices have been outlawed by countries in Europe, and they should be banned in the U.S. as well. AB 732 also seeks to prohibit veal producers from denying calves adequate iron and fiber in their diets, a practice that is intended to produce borderline anemia and the pale colored meat sold as veal. More detailed information about veal crates and gestation crates is available at www.freefarmanimals.org. 1. Contact your assemblyperson immediately and urge him or her to support AB 732. It is critical for legislators to hear from numerous constituents, so please encourage others in your area to contact your legislator as well. You can obtain contact info for your state assemblyperson at http://www.assembly.ca.gov. 2. Contact Barbara Matthews, Chair of the Assembly Agriculture committee, which is considering AB 732. Please urge her to support passage of this humane measure. Assemblywoman Barbara Matthews, State Capitol, P.O. Box 942849, Sacramento, CA 94249-0017. Phone 916-319-2017; Fax: 916-319-2117 3. Write letters to the editor, detailing the cruelty that occurs on factory farms, and how AB 732 will help ease animal suffering. I just spoke with Gene Bauston from Farm Sanctuary who said this will be a tough bill to pass unless Matthews hears from A LOT of people! Please call today, and pass this email on! Guest guest
Hi folks, Thanks to Colleen for this important call to action! This is an issue that even a lot of our meat eating friends can get behind. I called my Assembly member Wilma Chan's office this morning, and her staff was happy to hear my opinion. I then called Barbara Matthews' office who transferred me to the Ag Committee office. I asked them how best to make my opinion heard on the matter of AB 732 and the woman I spoke with suggested I send a fax. When I asked to whose attention I should send the fax, she replied that there are only three people in their office, and they would " make sure it got in the file " . Here's the Agricultural Committee fax #: 916-319-2184 -Josh --- http://www.technotofu.com ---
