Guest guest
With meat getting such a bad reputation, it stands to reason that this year's Great American Meatout campaign will be big. I was wondering if anyone on the list knows of local events to recognize the campaign, since I didn't see anything for the Bay Area listed on the website. Below is from the International Vegetarian Union listserve: This March will mark the 19th annual observance of the Great American Meatout, world's greatest grassroots diet education campaign. Caring people in a thousand communities in all 50 states and 20 other countries will welcome the first day of spring by asking their friends and neighbors to " kick the meat habit and explore a wholesome, nonviolent diet of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. " Events range from a Congressional Reception and colorful 'lifestivals' to street theater, public dinners, cooking demos, and information tables ('steakouts'). http://www.meatout.org Marcy Berkeley

It says " Meatout 2003 and Related Events " and " Last Updated: 01-20-2003 01:33 PM " But your email is very timely as now is the time to plan... We are having another AR 101 workshop in a few months. http://www.generationv.org/cl/calendar.htm We're going back to the SF Main Library. Our original plan was to do it in March for Meatout, but the room was booked, so that's why we're doing it in early April instead as a Meatout activity. (As the workshops are free, we are relying on library rooms since they are also free to use.) I think it would be great to get something organized for the actual date -- the 20th anniversary on 3/20! -- esp. since it is a Saturday this year. If there isn't anything yet planned, is there interest in the group to do some type of public outreach event? Some simple like a screening of Animal Place's new documentary about the book, The Pig Who Sang to the Moon ... or ?? Would love to hear your ideas.....
