Hi folks,

One of the goals of Bay Area Vegetarians is to connect/support the local

community. With nearly a thousand members on SFBAVEG, we are the largest

*discussion* group in the 'Vegetarian Groups' category. (The

two groups larger than ours are both announcement-only lists.) There are

lots of examples of other discussion lists that have become defunct once

people lost interest as there was no relevance to the messages being posted.

We don't want this to happen to SFBAVEG, which is why we originally

established the group Charter. We really want our list to stay

relevant/useful to the local community.

To help keep our list vibrant, and viable, it is important that folks are

aware of the guidelines and try to follow them. I've added a new question

to our list of Frequently Asked Questions:

Is it okay to repost news stories?

Please only send a news repost to SFBAVEG if it is somehow locally

related... Ideally, please write a sentence or two explaining why the

article is of local relevance and then provide the URL to the article.

For folks seeking a news service, we suggest the International Vegetarian

Union's IVU-Veg-News mailing list; there are approximately 100-300 news

stories a month. The sheer volume of news stories is why we ask people to

refrain from posting news stories unless there is a local relevance. People

wishing to receive or share news stories on a regular basis should

to the preceding list.

Please help keep our list focused, and relevant/useful to the local folks

who join.
