Guest guest
Yesterday afternoon for the first time, I visited The Bayleaf Cafe in Palo Alto (520 Ramona Street, 650-321-7466). The food was superb and the service was also outstanding, in a very low-key, friendly way. In conversation with staff, I learned that the restaurant is close to going under, due to lack of business. They've been in operation about a year and the marketing that they've implemented so far has not been successful. I don't live in Palo Alto (unfortunately, the roundtrip for me is more than an hour) but it seems to me that there ought to be sufficient demand for such a restaurant in that location (just off University). It would be a great pity to lose The Bayleaf. If anyone has any ideas for them, you may wish to contact them. I found this contact name and email address through betterwhois.com: Cindy Liang <hanaliang. (They have a Website at thebayleafcafe.com but there is no contact email given there. I hope Cindy doesn't mind my sharing the info with you here, in the interest of helping them.) Please support this wonderful establishment. Those of you who have not yet eaten there -- I would strongly urge you to visit asap. (Check the Website and call in advance, to make sure they're open, as the hours are somewhat irregular.) You'll be glad you did! Daniel Berman, Foster City

Hi all, A great way to support a veg establishment is to organize a dinner there. This is actually a page out of Das' book, the founder of the former Bay Area Vegetarian Restaurant Trek, " Thoughtfully spread vegetarianism, using the power of economics " . Bob has been hosting a *monthly* vegan dinner at his favorite restaurant, New World in Oakland, for Bay Area Vegetarians for the past few months. Chris and I have our favorite restaurant, Shangri-La in SF, and starting next year we'll host a monthly vegan dinner there (more info on this later) So, we've got monthly group vegan dinners in the East Bay & SF -- anyone interested in hosting a monthly South Bay dinner for us (or any other location)? This is a great way to support your favorite restaurant AND a great way to meet other veg folks. So, if there is a veg restaurant that you'd like to support with our collective vegetarian dining dollars, while enjoying good food and fellowship at the same time, please email me about organizing a monthly vegan dinner; you could co-host with a friend. While Bay Area Vegetarians has 8 events planned for January, there are still lots of open dates for YOUR event! http://www.bayareaveg.org/events.php Cheers, Tammy Get the veg vote out!! Vote for your favorite Vegetarian restaurants and be eligible for prizes... http://www.BayAreaVeg.org/contest.htm
