6 Session Course in Yoga and Meditation

Didi Ananda Atandra will help students explore yoga postures and philosophy

during each 2-hour session. Each session will include yoga asanas (postures),

explination and guided discussion on yogic lifestyle and meditation.

Beginners Session

Fridays: Jan 23, 30; Feb 6, 13, 20, 27

 

Sundays: March 14, 21, 28; April 4, 18, 25

Advanced Session

Fridays: March 19, 26; April 2, 9, 16, 23

 

Sundays: May 16, 23; June 6, 13, 20, 27

 

 

Vegetarian Dinners

Enjoy a delicious, healthy meal that follows a sattvik* yogic diet to nourish

the body and mind. Optional meditation and chanting proceeds each dinner should

you would like to join.

 

*sattvik diet excludes meat, eggs, onion, garlic, mushroom

$10 suggested donation.

 

 

Vegetarian Cooking Class

Learn how to cook following a vegetarian, yogic diet. Our teachers specialize in

International Cuisine. Special classes include Ayurvedic, Chineese and Indian

cooking. A delicious meal is included with every class.

 

4th Sunday of every Month: Jan 25, Feb 22, March 28…

 

Cost is $20, $15 for students.

 

 

Yoga Class with JiivapriyaTuesdays at 6-7:15 pm

Thursdays at 9-10:15 am

 

This class encompasses a gentle style of asanas (yoga postures), self-massage

and deep relaxation to create and enhance your own serenity of mind and body. A

great class for both beginners and more advanced yoga students.

Didi Ananda Atandra is the director of Oakland Meditation Center. Initiated

into the practice of meditation at a very young age, she has taught yoga,

mediation and the philosophy of Tantra in India, the U.S. and Canada for more

than 13 years as a monastic yogi. She is a yogic nun of Ananda Marga, an

international social and spiritual organization found in over 160 countries. The

philosophy of Ananda Marga is one of universalism. It is a cooperative outlook,

recognizing one limitless supreme consciousness, and all beings of the universe

as connected and part of the one cosmic family.

 

Syllabus: Beginners Class in Yogic Lifestyle (The practice of Yoga and

Meditation)

 

General Schedule (6-8 pm Fridays**)

6:00 pm Yoga Postures (Asanas)

7:00 pm Class and Discussion Session

7:45 pm Chanting and Meditation

 

Session 1: “What is Yoga?”

Yoga is a timeless intuitional science. Discussion will be based on the origin

of yoga and the principles of Astaunga Yoga (also called “eight-fold yoga”).

 

Session 2: “Asanas (Yoga postures) and Healthy Diet”

Discussion will cover the intimate relation between the body and mind as well as

the subtle and profound effects of yoga postures. Discover the benefits of

eating a healthy yogic diet.

 

Session 3: “10 Myths of Meditation”

Explore common questions and obstacles of meditation. Discussion will include

introduction to meditation and intuitional science.

 

Session 4: “Withdrawing the Mind”

Finding peace of mind within one’s busy life. Discussion will include methods

that can help to quiet the mind for meditation.

 

Session 5: “Science of Mantra and Concentration”

Mantra is translated as “a sound that liberates the mind.” Discussion will

explore the Sanskrit language, its effects on mind and techniques for

concentrated thinking (or meditation).

 

Session 6: “Beyond the Conscious Mind”

What is beyond the mind? This discussion is dedicated to deeper thought toward

meditation practice and exploring the inner layers of mind through intuitional

science.
