Guest guest
Dear Friends, First, thanks to all of you who helped with lunch and dinner at Matt Gonzalez' campaign headquarters yesterday. We influenced a lot of people by serving them great, vegan food. Thanks, too, to Maggie Mudd's, Clif Bar, and the Sun Flour Baking Company for their generous donations, and to Kokila's Kitchen and Golden Era for providing the food at wholesale prices. And finally, thanks to all of you who made a financial contribution that allowed us to pull this off in just four days. If you would like to make a donation via " Veggie for Gonzalez, " you still can. Please email me privately For those of you who don't know why so many veggie and AR people support Matt Gonzalez, below are a few lines from a front-page story in today's SF Chronicle that will help you understand. To read the full story, http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2003/12/07/MNG253I2JI1.D TL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - " She (Gonzalez' mother) pointed to the telephone pole that she said her son smashed into with his Volkswagen Scirocco to avoid hitting a cat. She drove by the family's first home in McAllen (Texas), situated on a quiet cul-de-sac, where she recalled " Eddie " would find crickets indoors and, rather than killing them, carefully carry them outside in a napkin. " " Since taking office in January 2001, Gonzalez has focused on the unemployed, voiceless and politically disenchanted, whether poor people, immigrants, animals or Generation Xers. " " Harkening to his days as a protector of crickets and cats, he carried legislation removing the term 'pet owner' from city regulations and replacing it with 'pet guardian'. " " Gonzalez is known to give away possessions -- he handed the keys of one car to a friend and allowed a homeless man to camp in another. The homeless man later sold the vehicle. Now car-less, he rides MUNI and shares a rented apartment in Haight-Ashbury with three roommates. He even eats soy ice cream! This Tuesday, vote Gonzalez.
