She has done a lot for the vegetarian community. She is a vegetarian since 1958 and Vegan since 1978. She was one of the few vegetarians around who's a vegetarian for animal rights reason. Back then there were a lot more obstacles to hurdle as a vegetarian. She wanted to be a vegetarian since she was very young in the 1930s, but her mother would not let her. (guess how old Dixie is going to be.
