New World Vegetarian Restaurant's Thanksgiving fare

New World Vegetarian Restaurant at 464-8th Street in

downtown Oakland will be open for Thanksgiving and

serving a special selection of dishes. Despite their

reliance on animal/meat names for dishes, all their

food is vegan. The entree specials range from $15.25

to $16.25, the two salads are $8.95.

 

Two salads will be available--

Papaya Salad, with shredded green papaya, spaghetti

squash, and orange chicken tossed with mint, basil,

bean curd flakes and oil free vinaigrette dressing

 

Tunotato Salad, with veggie tuna and potato salad,

cucumber on a bed of alfalafa sprouts and spring

mix.

 

Special Entrees: All specials come with Asian squash

soup and papaya salad.

 

Turkey Delight--roasted veggie turkey served with

traditional mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn and peas

with mushroom gravy and cranberry chutney sauce.

 

Turkey Feast--poached veggie turkey ham served with

traditional mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn and peas

with mushroom gravy and cranberry chutney sauce.

 

Champagne Chicken--Seasoned veggie chicken sauteed

with mushrooms, onion in champagne sauce served with

seasoned brown rice, mashed potato and garlic chive

acorn squash.

 

Rosemary Chicken--crispy veggie chicken patties with

rosemary caper sauce served with seasoned brown rice,

mashed potatoes, and garlic chive acorn squash.

 

While I have no financial relationship with this

restaurant, I do think they are one of the best vegan

restaurants in the Bay Area and invite you to go there

for a meal on Thanksgiving or any other day/evening.

Aside from an over-reliance on animals/meat products

for the naming of dishes, which I find annoying, they

consistently create delicious appetizers and entrees

which borrow influences from many regions of the

world. Bay Area Vegetarians will meet there again on

the third Sunday of the month, December 21st, at 6PM.
