Guest guest
Polly Strand who worked tirelessly for the innocents -- animals, environment, children and disenfranchised humans -- passed away on November 5th 2003. Her life style was consistent with her beliefs; she was a vegan that many on this group list knew. Her good deeds span decades and are far too numerous to list in this message. Polly did not fear death and planned an orderly good-bye and had scheduled a family gathering on November 15th with a Vegan Thanksgiving menu (she preferred the label Indigenous Peoples Day). The very rapid change from life to passing in and out of consciousness caught Polly and I by surprise and left some unfinished business and missed good-byes. Fortunately she was able to see two of her children on the day of her passing and to die at home in the caring supportive setting she had requested. I am sorry I did not let people know sooner but sadness and chaos left me less than functional and I was not able to communicate. At some point in the near future, I will be able to give more details and answer questions but for now email is generally better than phoning if you need to contact me. ldp (LDP –at sign- mcn.org) or my other email at IGC. You can let other people know; I may not have their email or they are not on this group list. Polly’s immediate family is going to have a Vegan meal on the November 15th in her honor. At some point in the future we will have a fitting gathering or activity in her honor and I will invite all of you. Due to the suddenness, Polly did not get to complete changes she desired in her Trust to honor some people and groups that had come into her life in the last year and a half. If you want to make a donation in her memory to a couple of wonderful non-profits she wanted to include but ran out of time, they are listed below. Please do not send flowers, etc, to me. Thank all of you for being Polly’s friend and caring. Lindsay P.S. Polly came to know and work with the women who head the below non-profits. These are small tax deductible non-profits whose leaders work tirelessly and whose life styles are totally consistent with their work. They also volunteered to help Polly on some of her recent projects on behalf of animals and the environment. Both Lauren and Julia are vegans among many other good personal traits. If you send a donation, please put “In Memory of Polly Strand” somewhere on the check.
