Guest guest
Hi folks, All the points raised by various people are correct, and I for one would certainly much prefer to go to a vegan restaurant any day over a fast food place. And of course I am no fan or WalMart, etc. No, I have not read Fast Food Nation. The only thing I was pointing out was that fast food, as a concept, is not bad. Our standard of living increases when more products are produced faster and hence become more available at lower prices. Fast food (if not its current incarnations.) is a perfect example. I can also sympathize with folks who feel that working for such an establishment is exploitive, but what can one do? An anecdote: I live in San Francisco (near pier 39), and work in San Mateo. Using public transit takes me 1.5 hours each way to get to work. And the place I work is has virtually no good restaurants nearby -- even the Safeway across the street has no veggie munchies one can buy! So when I stumble home at 9:30 at night, tired, hungry, and lazy, the fact that I can grab a veggie whopper, a side salad with italian dressing, and a cherry ice at the Burger King across the street has a very strong appeal.
