A couple remarks:

To my mind, the point of being vegan is to make a real difference in the

world, not to strive for some ideal level of purity and perfection. If a

couple drops of meat fat have fallen into your beans makes no difference

either for your health or the happiness of animals.

>Plus, why on earth support a junk food chain with your money??

Well, " junk food " (i.e. standardized food prepared quickly at low cost) is a

major and important industrial innovation and fills a key niche in the

market. Rather than condemn such restaurants we should be supporting their

goals of delivering inexpensive food efficiently while clamoring for them to

make their food healthier and more eco-friendly (i.e. vegan).

Mass production is an essential ingredient of our modern standard of living.

Otherwise we'd still be living in the dark ages with everything hand made.

Sorry to perpetuate this thread, but I think it's valid to mention this

point about " 5-Layer " burritos:

Taco Bell tortillas are probably not vegan. As a Taco Bell CSR just

informed me (1-800-TACO-BELL) there is one ingredient in the flour

tortilla called " enzyme blend. " I had asked if there were any

milk-derived ingredients in the flour tortilla and she thought that this

may be a milk derivative.

The only things I have determined to be vegan at Taco Bell are the rice

and a tostada with no cheese.
