For those of you not familiar with Joyce's accomplishments, she was instrumental in the genesis of the field of animal law along with a group of Bay Area attorneys that eventually became the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF). The ALDF brought the landmark case Provimi Veal, a case that sought to require labeling of veal to reflect the inhumane practices involved in producing it. Attorneys will also be familiar with a famous case regarding the Santerian practice of animal sacrifice in the City of Hialeah, and the ALDF was one plaintiff in this action as well. Joyce will be sharing her story, landmark cases, and advice for those who are interested in practicing animal law. Professor Wagman is a litigation partner in the law firm Morgenstein & Jubelirer. He specializes in civil litigation with a concentration in Employment and Animal Law. He graduated magna cum laude from Hastings College of the Law, clerked for Hon. William H. Orrick, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University. He represents a variety of animal-related groups and individuals in animal law cases, including the current " Happy Cows " suit for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals against the California Milk Advisory Board. David Blatte practices Animal Law in Berkeley and takes a wide variety of cases including injury of companion animals, negligent handling of animals, vet malpractice, and dog bites, to name a few. He has extensive experience with the media, regularly appears on radio (and television) in both animal rights and animal law discussions, and recently started Animal Law Associates, a non-profit law firm designed to provide legal services on behalf of animals at no charge. David also represented Hera, the dog involved in the mauling of Diane Whipple, in the death penalty case against Hera. Hope to see you there!
