Guest guest
dear deborah, i have been vegetarian since 1976. i have never once bombed a building and do not support radical activists who do. (fyi: many " earth first " bombers are not vegetarian or vegan!) i work with juvenile offenders. trust me, there IS a strong correlation between violence against animals and violence against humans. kids who grow up kicking their dog can make that next step to kicking their children (parents, partners, etc...). it's obvious you don't support vegetarianism or veganism for health issues, let alone for global ecological issues.... never mind the animal rights issue. i assume you believe it's perfectly fine to inject chimpanzees with HIV or implant electrodes into cat skull. ever visited a factory farm? seen how inhumanely food animals are confined, denied their natural instincts (to spread their wings, to walk freely, to milk their young, etc...)? rainforests ARE being destroyed for cattle as western nations grow obese and die of heart attacks and cancer from our meat-based diet. we do share the planet with animals and we are destroying much of their habitat. we live in a connected system and must remember that what we do to animals, to the earth, and to each other will come around to haunt us. i certainly hope you are raising your own children (grandchildren, nieces/nephews, etc...) to be humane, to be compassionate, and to have a connected world view. it's not just about cats and dogs. would you be horrified to see a person of another culture kill and eat a household pet? a gorilla (bushmeat)? a whale? some of us extend that disgust to " farm " animals. i'm sorry you're so human-centric you see no value in extending compassion to all living beings. amy lynn caplan pacifica
