Guest guest
Debra Saunders has an article in the SF Chronicle about a charter school that started up in San Francisco based on non-violence, with a strong vegan bent: > http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2003/10/26/EDG\ 562HB311.DTL Debra does not seem to appreciate the idea much, to say the least! In fact, she sounds quite agitated about the whole thing. Jack
Guest guest
heh! she does seem quite agitated indeed. i gave her some of her own agitation right back at her in this letter i just emailed to their editor - Your recent article about a vegan charter school was so laughably bad that I don't even know where to start. Perhaps I could start at your endless string of logical fallacies ( " A handful of animal rights activists are terrorists therefore *all* the world's vegetarians are violent. " ) Or I could spend an hour tearing apart your disdain for ideas too difficult for you to accept. God forbid children learn the connection between numbers, math, cost, economics, and the harm caused to the environment. On Planet Debra, that's called " indoctrination " . Perhaps you would rather bury your head in the sand than " indoctrinate " children. After all, it's much easier to believe that everything is free, resources are infinite, you can do anything you want, and you never have to clean up after yourself. Sounds like a lousy belief system to teach our children. Thanks, but I think I'll join the ranks of rational thinkers who supported this charter school, because the children who come out of it will be the only students intellectually equipped to face the coming challenges of the 21st century.
