Guest guest
Hi! My name is Stephanie and you may have read emails that I have posted to this group. You may also have met me at an animal rights event, and when you did, you would have thought that I looked completely normal. What you would not have know though, is that in order to go to that event, I rested in bed for several days before and would need to do so for several days afterwards. You see, even though I *look* completely well, I actually have a medical condition that make it impossible for me to work or go to school and very difficult to participate in any activism. For a long time now, I have felt a little bit lost in two worlds. People I have met who share the experience of serious chronic illness have not been veggie people and people who share my great passion for helping animals usually can't relate to what it's like to be disabled. Also, veggie people with significant illness/disability may share experiences which may be somewhat unique to them. For example, should one refuse to use a medicine based on ethical principles? How does one find a doctor who is good at treating one's medical condition who will be respectful and supportive of my dietary choices? How should one talk to one's doctor regarding one's diet. Etc. I have created a new group on It is called DisVeg and you can subscirbe at DisVeg Or, you can just go to and put in DisVeg and it will take you there. I hope that this group will be a place where vegetarians, vegans, aspiring veg*ns and a.r. people can find community and support and hopefully even some *humor* with others who are facing health challenges. Stephanie I have created a new group for people interested in veg*ism and/or animal rights who are also dealing with
