Dear SF Vegans and Vegetarians,

Thanks to everyone who is responsible for putting

together this list. It seems like it would be a great

resource. I just joined and would like to introduce

myself and let you know about a couple of projects I'm

working on.

I'm writing a magazine article and producing a short

radio feature about meat substitute products (veggie

burgers, fake hot dogs, etc.). As an eight-year

vegetarian myself I am pretty enthusiastic about these

products but I would like to hear from others and get

their opinions on the record. These projects are part

of a journalism class at UC Berkeley taught by writer

Michael Pollan.

Since the market seems to be expanding for this stuff

(e.g. Gardenburger and all their meatballs, riblets,

and so on) I think it's time to look at the overall

market for fake meat and see how it's doing and of

course ask the question, How close to the real thing

does fake meat have to get in order to convince large

numbers of omnivores to give up real meat?

If anyone is interested and would be so kind as to get

in touch with me and arrange an interview, I'd greatly

appreciate it.

Please send an e-mail to justinbeck2000 or

even reply in public to this list. Looking forward to

hearing from you.

Thanks very much,
