PETA demo this Saturday

Hi everyone,

Some of you may be on PETA's alerts list and saw this:

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is sponsoring a fundraising ball

called " The Cattle Baron's Ball " in Santa Clara, Calif., on September

20, and in Sunnyvale, Calif., on September 27, to promote the

consumption of beef. This year's theme is " Steers and Stripes Forever, "

celebrating the " pioneer spirit and legends of the American Frontier. "

Not only do the ACS's guidelines specifically state that people should

reduce red meat consumption to help prevent cancer, the group has also

ignored some of the best research connecting animal-laden diets with

debilitating diseases.

PETA has asked me to help organize a demo at the event this Saturday to

draw attention to the hypocrisy of the American Cancer Society promoting

beef. I hope you will join me! PETA will be providing signs and will be

sending out press releases to try to get media attention to the event.

When: Saturday, 9/20, 5-6pm (It's only for an hour!)

Where: Santa Clara Convention Center

5001 Great America Pkwy

Santa Clara, CA

Why: To call the American Cancer Society on its hypocritical promotion

of meat, and to persuade the ACS to actively and consistently promote a

diet lower in (if not free of) animal products, which is in line with

dietary recommendations for cancer prevention. This would send an

important message to people who look to the ACS for dietary guidance.

I'd like to organize a carpool to this event, if possible, particularly

since at the moment I have no way of getting there! (I live in SF.) If

you're interested in attending, would like to carpool (especially if

you'd like to drive me!), or would like more information, please let me

know.

Hope to see many of you there!

Nora
