Guest guest
Vegan Outreach has a new program, Adopt a College http://www.veganhealth.org/colleges/ in which we are making a systematic effort to ensure all colleges get leafleted once a semester. Please read on... Not Only For Students! The animal protection movement needs a systematic plan for spreading vegetarianism and achieving animal liberation. We know that, on average, students are considerably more open to becoming vegetarian than are non-students. While many colleges have animal groups, many do not, and others are not very active. Every year, over 1 million people graduate from college -- most without having been given a brochure on becoming vegetarian during their entire four years of college. We cannot afford to let the great opportunity to reach college students pass simply because we are no longer in college. Non-students in the animal protection movement must make it our responsibility to ensure that these young, open minds are reached while the opportunity exists. Spreading animal-friendly eating is a numbers game. Don't dwell on the people you know who won't change - go out and leaflet, or sponsor a leafleter, at a college. You'll do more good in 30 minutes than spending years on the many resistant family, friends, and colleagues you know. So far, 31 colleges have been adopted, including 3 in San Francisco (adopted by Freedom for Animals' Gabe Quash, Go Gabe!). 4 colleges have been reported leafleted, for a total of 1,341 brochures handed out. I calculate that this translates into 33 new vegetarians and 2,046 animals saved per year (of course, this is theoretical). And it took a total of about 10 hours. There are many, many more colleges in the Bay Area to be adopted! Hundreds of people who are eating meat today could be vegetarian tomorrow if we only got out there and reached them. To adopt a college, please go to: http://www.veganhealth.org/colleges/ Once there, scroll down and click on " California " to see a list of colleges in the Bay Area. I bet you'll be surprised at how many there are. And each one is a bastion of potential vegetarians and vegans. Thanks for reading! Guest guest
After my post about Adopt a College on Tuesday, it was kindly pointed out to me that many people have jobs and cannot take off during the week to leaflet at a college. It was suggested that such people might want to donate money to help out instead. Yes, I highly encourage this! : ) And anyone desiring to do so can at: http://www.veganoutreach.org/about/donate.html But don't discount your ability to take a long lunch and leaflet at a local college, either. It can take as little as 30 minutes on the campus to do a lot of good. Community colleges count too! In fact, they may be even better than larger universities as they are more untapped.
